Maasin City, Southern Leyte – The Department of Health, regional office, has declared the province of Southern Leyte as filariasis-free after the continual seven years (2000-2007) preventive annual mass treatment was completed in the entire province led by Rural Health Unit physician Dr. Francelisa I. Tan.

Maasin City, Southern Leyte – Twenty four thousand mangrove tree seedlings were planted in two consecutive years in 2007 and 2008 in 12 municipalities covering a total of 24 barangays of this province allegedly as a measure to help mitigate climate change or global warning.

Maasin City, Southern Leyte -The Sangguniang Panlalawigan has approved three projects on October 27, 2008 from three municipalities of this province thru its respective Mayors who sent each resolution of request for financial assistance amounting to a total of P5.250M.
