Maasin City, Southern Leyte – Congressman Roger G. Mercado has purchased a total of 363 two-wheeled big garbage bins estimated to worth about P1.9M for the city and the province. This is in conjunction with the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Disposal under the clean and green program which is one of the solon?s priority projects.

This was disclosed on February 15, 2008 by Herbert Mercado of the city?s General Services Office (CGSO) where all the big garbage bins were under their custody and in-charged of its distribution to various areas of the city and the province?s 18 towns.

He said that a total of 115 green-colored garbage bins are to be distributed to various areas of the city like the public market, bus terminal, Sitio Tuburan, City Gym, public plaza, outside banks, some restaurants, city hall offices, all beach resorts and in some places where pedestrians and commuters commonly converged.

Mercado said that the distribution also include 25 garbage bins for the 25 city sweepers for their respective areas of designation. This is to augment other garbage cans so that wastes can be placed and properly collected.

He also revealed that the 18 municipalities of the province will also benefit from the program by having 10 garbage bins each thru a letter of request coming from its respective Chief Executives.

The remaining 68, he said, might be utilized and placed in some strategic locations in some of the city?s barangays where there are regular collections of garbage from the city?s garbage trucks. (Quirico M. Gorpido,Jr.)
