Aguelo Knocks Out Tiny Tyson In Just 2 Rounds
Maasin City,Southen Leyte – Adonis Aguelo of Maasin City knockout Tiny Tyson in just 2 rounds of the scheduled 10-round professional fight recently (Nov 21,2008) held at the city gymnasium as an offering tournament to the 54th birthday celebration of incumbent Governor Damian G. Mercado.
The professional fight is the first since the untimely death of Alex Aroy several months ago. Weighing 122 lbs. of the super bantamweight divisions, Aguelo bagged an easy win over his opponent via TKO at 1:59 official time after the referee counted Tyson out.
At the start of the first round, each boxer was trying to detect the style of his opponent. Tyson threw forceful punches against Aguelo, but missed his targets, hitting the air instead. Aguelo retaliated by pummeling punches on his head, turning it reddish from hard hits. Tyson showed it off as if telling the packed audience that those punches didn?t affect him at all.
Tyson took his chances, throwing jabs and uppercuts against Aguelo, but the latter parried, hitting less, Aguelo then released a series of punches, prompting Tyson to backpedal. Before the bell rang, Tyson hit Aguelo on the ribs, but it did not diminish the latter?s active punching, also hitting the former in retaliation.
On the second round, Aguelo unleashed his powerful bombardment against Tyson hitting him on different parts of his body. Aguelo followed it with more aggressive attacks with his straight jabs and uppercuts absorbed by Tyson, hitting him as well on his ribs that weakened his strength and knockout. He failed to stand up for another fight.
The referee after counting Tyson out, raised Aguelo?s left hand and the spectators profusely cheered. Mayor Maloney Samaco, who was grinning, climbed up the ring and congratulated Aguelo, now the new Philippine Boxing Federation champion. A souvenir picture was taken with the winner and the loser flanked by Mayor Samaco holding the PBF belt.
Another Maasinhon, weighing 110 lbs. Michael Ramos, also won in his debut fight with a split decision against Hector Rojoca of Jagna ,Bohol. While 105 lbs. Jaime Bermiso of Bato, Leyte grabbed a majority decision win over another Boholano Simplicio Nueva.
According to the information that I?ve gathered Aguelo raised his ratings to 4-0-1 with 3 wins by KO..Tyson?s card plunged to 4-6-1.The Mayor, also a sports enthusiast quoted Rex Wakee Salud Promotions? matchmaker
Willie Flores saying that ?the new champion has a great future ahead of him with his good attitude towards rigid training?. The mother of Aroy also congratulated Aguelo for winning the bout.
Prior to the culmination of the 3 pairs professional boxing bouts, 10 pairs of amateur bouts were slugging it out as 4 rounders. Maasin City had 4 wins. Matalom, Leyte also bagged 4 wins. While Bato, Leyte grabbed 2 wins.
The boxing promotion was sponsored by the Maasin City Sports Council and financed by the City Government as part of the birthday celebration of the incumbent Governor Damian G. Mercado. (Quirico M. Gorpido, Jr.)
