Kris Aquino, the youngest sister of the President, filed the petition, August 9, to nullify the marriage to James Yap. Kris’s lawyers did not divulge the grounds of the petition filed at the Makati Family Court but there were reports that the basis of the petition was “lack of authority of the solemnizing officer“.

According to reports, Kris Aquino and James Yap’ s marriage were officiated by Congressman Sonny Belmonte, the mayor of Quezon City at that time. However, there were also reports said that the one who bound them was the minister of the Holy Sacrament Internation Church.

However, these reports were not confirmed by Kris or by any at her camp.
