Maasin City, Southern Leyte – A slide is something associated with accident and every person is a potential victim of slide. Maasin City, Southern Leyte – The Department of Health, regional office, has declared the province of Southern Leyte as filariasis-free after the continual seven years (2000-2007) preventive annual mass treatment was completed in the entire province led by Rural Health Unit physician Dr. Francelisa I. It’s my first time to hear that a journalist or publisher here in Southern Leyte has been attacked.
According to the police, at past 3:00am this Thursday, December 11, 2008, unidentified gunmen fired two shots at the house of Mr. Tony Reyes, hitting the glass door and into the room just below room where Mr. Reyes stayed. Mr. Reyes’ house served as his home and at the same time the office of the Southern Leyte Times.

Maasin City, Southern Leyte – Two motorcycles, both running in high speed. The first one speeding towards northwest and the other running towards southeast collided in Brgy. Dinahugan, Padre Burgos at past 7:00 p.m. recently (Nov. 29,2008) seriously injuring both drivers and the latter?s backrider.

Maasin City, Southern Leyte – Twenty four thousand mangrove tree seedlings were planted in two consecutive years in 2007 and 2008 in 12 municipalities covering a total of 24 barangays of this province allegedly as a measure to help mitigate climate change or global warning.

Maasin City,Southen Leyte – Adonis Aguelo of Maasin City knockout Tiny Tyson in just 2 rounds of the scheduled 10-round professional fight recently (Nov 21,2008) held at the city gymnasium as an offering tournament to the 54th birthday celebration of incumbent Governor Damian G. Mercado.
